Hi, Richard here. If you ever see a gaijin riding around the island on mountain bike with huge camera bag strapped to his back then there's a good chance that it's me - please feel free to say hello. I became interested in photography a few years ago and moving to Ishigaki from England has provided me with plenty of exciting photographic opportunities. Most of these shots were taken during 2009 but I'll be adding new shots all the time, particularly once I get a chance to head out to the other islands.Butterflies
Ishigaki has an enourmous diversity of butterflies and 'banna park' is on of the best places to find them. All of these shots were taken with a Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro lens.
Hounensai
In terms of traditional festivals 'Hounensai' is probably the most important event on Ishigaki's calendar. They are held throughout Ishigaki during a week in the summer and you should really try to catch one if you're lucky enough to be on the island at the time. The album contains shots which I took of the 2009 festivals.Wildlife
If you like insects, spiders and reptiles then you might enjoy these photo of Ishigaki's wildlife - very much a work in progress.
