Manta rays are ranked as one of the top creatures which divers seek in the ocean. They are the largest of the ray family with bodies frequently exceeding 3 meters in length. Divers flock to Ishigaki's manta point to admire these huge pelagics which seemingly appear out of nowhere, gliding gracefully through the water. Manta point (also known as 'manta scramble') is located just off the Ishizaki peninsula, not far from Kabira. This expansive point sees the arrival of many mantas which gather for the purpose of being cleaned by small fish which inhabit the reef. If you're lucky you may get the chance to see mantas 'hovering' during the cleaning process, and if conditions permit, you may also be able to view mantas while snorkeling. Umicoza's boats set out for manta point on a daily basis.
